In the midst of death there is life

In the midst of death there is life.

When winter cackles and jeers and says all is lost,
When all we see and hear is its dreary mirth,
Look deep and realize that the frost
Gives the energy to the earth.
New life needs the cold, the damp, the snow,
For in hibernation each tree, each seed must grow.
When comes the spring and the scales fall from our eyes,
We gaze again at clear blue skies
And colour all around
