Explore - Maps
I love maps, I have a whole shelf full. John and I used to get a map of any area we were visiting, and pour over it before we went. Such fun to see what was there. Then on the journey John drove and I read the map. Many times that would lead to mishaps but never mind we would eventually get to our destination.
I just picked a few off the shelf for this photo, using the ones with a photo on the front rather than just a map.
Opening up the large scale Leisure map of the English Lake District finding an interesting section and taking a close up photo I used this on the front of an envelope which I have stuck in my playbook
Nearly all British diaries have a map of the London underground printed on one of the information pages, the diary I was given had a map of British Rail Lines as well so they are on the back of the envelope and the page it is attached to. Inside the envelope I have put my rail cards from my latest trip oop North.
I think I will have to get my maps out again sometime and perhaps do a table top rally. That was something John and I used to do at a motoring club we belong to in North London many many years ago in the 1960s.
I have just found a website that have a TT rally using a map I have so I may spread it out on the floor this evening and see if I can do it. Perhaps this is going to be a new/old hobby for me.

A place for me to put the pictures of layouts I have done that I am pleased with, to put in the poems I write and to add snippets of things that have caught my eye

we loved collecting maps too.
I like thgis and I am so going to pinch your idea about adding some envelopes to my play book
Oh I'm really liking how your playbook is coming along. You've got great ideas
Table top rally sounds interesting!
We have a drawerful of maps - not just UK destinations either! There's Oslo, Basle, Stockholm, Munich, Paris, Cyprus... probably other places too (I haven't been to Paris or Munich, but DH went there to work). Then there are street maps of places we have lived in or where family/friends live(d). Also Ordnance Survey maps of various types - pink, orange, green... and some tourist maps too. And AA guidebooks with map pages and information. Lots of Maps!
I love your map envelope, with the train tickets inside. That's a very imaginative use of your maps. And the Tabletop Rally sounds such fun - looks as if you've found yourself something to keep busy on a rainy evening!
Hope you're enjoying your Explore with Shimelle. I didn't sign up this time - I am just so busy; but I'm looking in on the stuff that my friends are doing, whenever I can!
I love maps too, they just invite you get going somewhere.
Such a great story and the idea to look in a diary for Tube or Rail maps was inspired!
Thank you so much for this post. I want to let you know that I posted a link to your blog in CBH Digital Scrapbooking Freebies, under the Page 4 post on Jul. 21, 2011. Thanks again.
