Yesterday as it was bank holiday and I really didn't want to stay in doors, I got on my bike, literally and cycled to the outlet village in Swindon. This has been house in the old GW Railway works, which closed in 1986 it is a grade 2 listed building and so has retain so much of it's original features, cleaned up of course but still a great place to take my camera and snap away.
I also decided that it was time I went into the railway museum, which I have never visited before although I have lived in the area for 31 year. I asked if I could take photos and was giving the assurance that as long as it was not for commercial use that I could snap away to my hearts content. What a wealth of interest is there, with wax figures so lifelike that I felt I was intruding on their work.
I know that sometime I will be doing a page or two using some of the photos I took but for now here are a few.
the wheel here is for the broad gauge railway with a statue of Brunel himself
The secretary at work on her typewriter and a comptometer (early adding machine) I have actually worked with one of these machines and it is surprising how fast you can add on them probably faster than a calculator as used today.
A carpenter at work on a carriage, his tool box beautifully inlaid and the framework of the carriage

Women working on a boiler of a steam engine
Goods including livestock waiting to be transported
The buffet car
that is just a brief look at what life was like in the days of steam
I did do a double layout of some of the features in the Outlet Village itself, this is for the challenge 52in10, this being 'My home town'. I have done a lot of pages of the town centre and at least one of the parks I wanted to find something new to use and thought that this would be ideal.

if you click on the image you should be able to get to my Flickr page and see a bigger version so you will be able to read the journalling. This is just a potted history of the Railway in Swindon information taken off the web.
